Why did I join the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard?
Born in Paris, I came to Sydney 17 years ago. I worked in the fashion
industry and then in a Pharmacy.
I joined the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard for some extra activities
at weekends but especially for developing my skills in boating. Having seen
the Coast Guard featured on TV it seemed a fun opportunity to join a team
and to participate in a worthwhile organization.
Since making the first phone call last September I have obtained my Boat
and Radio Licence and enjoyed time on Sydney Harbour with my duty team,
assisting vessels in difficulty and training on the Coast Guard boat.
I now have the skills and confidence to take the helm on a friend's boat
if needed. I can operate the radio using the correct protocols and help
in case of emergency. I especially love the early mornings on the harbour
and being part of a great experience.
