List Of Awards Ratified By National Board
Honours And Awards.The Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association Incorporation grants numerous Awards to its members who have contributed very outstanding and exceptional service in any aspect of the Association activities.
Over a period of time, the names of those members who have received Awards will be listed on the Web so that all Squadrons and Flotillas will have a complete record of their members' achievements.
Life Membership.
Life Membership is the highest Award granted by the Association to a member for very outstanding service to the Association and who must meet certain criteria to be eligible for this Award. The member must have served continuously as a provisional or regular member for a period of ten years or more. Any member can make a recommendation for the Award to the submitting member's Flotilla Administration Officer or by an Officer serving on a Board to that Board.
Such recommendations if supported by the appropriate Squadron Board are then forwarded to the National Board on a prescribed form together with a citation of the grounds upon which the recommendation is based. The decision to grant the award or otherwise is the absolute prerogative of the National Board and is always discussed "In-Camera"
A Life Membership Plaque with a suitably framed Citation from the National Commodore and a Life Membership lapel badge is presented to all recipients.
As at 31st December 2006, forty-two (42) members had been granted Life Membership.

Commodore's Gold Award
The recommendation for the Commodore's Gold Award, which must be fully documented and on National Board approval of a Squadron recommendation for this Award, is discussed by the National Board "in camera" with voting by secret ballot.
The Commodore's Gold Award is the highest operational award in the Association for outstanding and exceptional service in a search and rescue operation on water or land, involving personal danger. It is regarded as the Association equivalent of the Victoria Cross. The Award is presented together with a citation document.

Commodores Blue Award.
The Commodores Blue Award is awarded on the recommendation of any Squadron Commodore or the National Commodore to members and non-members of the Association for service or assistance to the Association worthy of commendation.

Distinguished and Meritorious Awards.
A revised system of Awards to recognize the achievements of members was introduced in 2002. It was agreed that there was a need to recognize the achievements of a wider range of members while still retaining a hierarchy of Association honours which address different levels of consideration. A more visible recognition of these Awards, in addition to certificates will be a ribbon bar which can be worn on the uniform.
