Numerous attempts have been made to compile the History of the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association dating back to 1969 when Jack Arnott who was the National Staff Commodore undertook this job. In May 1976 an Advisory Committee was to be set up to compile the history, and in November 1978 an historian was to be appointed. All Flotillas, Squadrons and National were to maintain a register of persons holding an office in the Association. STCO Sid Bullen from Victoria was doing research into the history of Coast Guard, New South Wales produced a document entitled "21 Years On" and Commodore Les Swift was to write the history for the past 30 years. In 1993 Commodore Jones undertook this assignment.

What has happened to all the photographs and work?

As National Minute Secretary since 1992, and having attended every National Board meetings since 1986, the records and statistics I kept as a hobby have been invaluable in compiling this document.

At the National Board meeting held on 11th October 2003 in Melbourne, National Commodore Gillett appointed me National Archivist for the Association.

What is now on the Web Site is the result of many hours of research which has been very rewarding. This History is by no means complete and it is hoped that in time, those Flotillas and Squadrons who have not been identified will come forward with information.
